A metal plaque hangs on a granite stone wall next to some stairs leading down to Commons Beach. It reads:

Tahoe City Boardwalk
Judge C.W.Vernon
Memorial
Founder of the Tahoe City
Public Utility District and
Initiator of the Tahoe City
Boardwalk

Dedicated September 22, 1984
by the Board of Directors
Tahoe City Public Utility District

Ronald McIntyre, President
Robert Maddox, Director
Preston Kelley, Director
Leonard Shaheen, Director
Michael Waltz, Director

David C. Antonucci, Manager/Engineer

This memorial plaque is now obsolete in terms of mentioning the boardwalk since a major community re-beautification project was undertaken in recent years and the Commons Beach area was re-landscaped. There doesn't exist a boardwalk anymore accept in one small section along Highway 28. I would assume there were wooden boardwalks in Commons Beach, before the beautification project was undertaken.
