DE: Die Pfarrkirche St. Matthias in Neuwied ist eine dreischiffige, spätgotische Formen aufgreifende Hallenkirche mit kurzen, polygonal
abschließenden Querschiffarmen und einer basilikal gestalteten Choranlage. Den Außenbau beherrscht der 68 Meter hohe Glockenturm.
Der Architekt hat ihn an die Ecke des oben beschriebenen Grundstücks platziert, wo er in städtebaulicher Hinsicht die beste Wirkung erzielt.
Gesimse geben dem Turm eine horizontale Gliederung. Die untere Hälfte akzentuieren rötliche Eckquaderungen. Sie kontrastieren mit dem hellen Tuffstein des Mauerwerks, in dem kleine spitzbogige Öffnungen sowie mit Maßwerk versehene Rundfenster sitzen. Das mittlere
Turmgeschoss birgt die hohen lanzettförmigen Schalllöcherpaare. Das obere, schmaler angelegte Uhrstubengeschoss wird von einem Gang mit maßwerkverzierter Balustrade umzogen. Der Turm begrenzt die der Heddesdorfer-Straße zugewandte asymmetrische Hauptfassade an ihrer linken Seite.
