Im Stadtgebiet von Leipzig gibt es 30 restaurierte und mehr als 30 nicht restaurierte Handschwengelpumpen aus dem späten 19. bis frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Die Pumpen stehen unter Denkmalschutz. Auffallend ist, dass die Handschwengelpumpen in Leipzig zumeist in ihrer Ausgestaltung nicht einzigartig sind, sondern mehrfach im Stadtgebiet vorkommen. Von ursprünglich elf Typen, sind heute noch acht auffindbar. Einige dieser Pumpen-Typen weisen eine bemerkenswerte kunstvolle Gestaltung auf, da sie aus einem künstlerischen Wettbewerb entstanden sind.

Zum Typ 'Gotik':
Der Entwurf dieses Typs stammt wahrscheinlich aus dem Jahr 1877. Der Künstler ist nicht bekannt.
"Die Pumpe weist einen achteckigen Querschnitt auf. Die zahlreichen gusseisernen Dekorteile mit gotischen Motiven sind auf den Pumpenkörper aufgeschraubt. Die Haube der Pumpen mit dem Zinnenkranz war ehemals aus Zinkblech. Für die Rekonstruktion mussten einige Dekorteile „nachempfunden“ werden." Während meines Besuches der Pumpe, war diese nicht funktionstüchtig.

In the city of Leipzig there are 30 restored and more than 30 not restored Handschwengelpumpen from the late 19th to early 20th century. The pumps are national monuments. In the city are most more than one from the same type. Of the original eleven types are still eight discoverable. Some of these pump types have a remarkable artistic design, because they emerged from an artistic competition.
About the type 'Gotik':
The design of this type probably dates from 1877. The artist is not known.
“ The pump has an octagonal cross-section. The numerous cast-iron decorative parts with gothic motifs are screwed onto the pump body. The hood of the pumps was formerly made of zinc.
