The Station was established in 1829, five years after the founding of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. The RNLI took over the station in 1868.
The present lifeboat the "Ann and James Ritchie" came on station on 12 July 1991 and has the operational number 12-14 and is a Mersey Class Lifeboat.
