As the plaque reads:
Hazelcliffe, Cutarm, Kingslynn, Hazelcliffe School Districts
The first settlers came to this area in the 1880's. The post office was named Hazelcliffe because of the abundance of hazelnuts growing on the creek banks. With the completion of the railway to Neudorf in1904, Hazelcliffe became an active; boasting of a post office, church, store, hall, boarding house, three grain elevators, pool room, railway station, section house, black smith shop and several dwellings located half a kilometer south-east of this marker.
Presently the hamlet has almost disappeared, but a closely knit rural community remains.
This cairn was designed in 1980 by Hazelcliffe Historical Society as a tribute to the pioneers on the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the first homesteaders in this community.
