St. Anthony was a member of the Augustinians in Lisbon, Portugal, then entered the Franciscan Order. He was praying at a hermitage in Italy when asked to speak at an ordination. He was recognized as a great speaker and a theology scholar. He was stationed in Padua in Northern Italy. He wrote notes for sermons. He is a patron saint for those who are set in an unexpected direction. He is also considered a saint for lost items, the poor, and travelers.
