VR Post Box
The VR postbox was manufactured during the latter part of Queen Victoria's reign from 1837 -1901.
After the first wall box was trialled in 1858, the contract for production was eventually passed to W. T. Allen & Co.(who made two of the boxes on displayed here)in 1886 with the production of the "odd" size C box (WB86), which should have been 10 inches wide and 13 inches deep, but was actually 13 inches wide and only 10 inches deep. Only 70 were made before their mistake was rectified with the introduction in 1887 of the Queen Victoria Jubilee boxes.
Thies Victorian letter box was previously sited in Lower Foxdale.
