The Zlatý Andel (Golden Angel) building, designed by Jean Nouvel, was completed in November 2000
in Prague – Smíchov. The house was built by ING Real Estate – the same developer who commissioned the Prague 1990s icon: Fred and Ginger Building by Frank O Gehry. With Jean Nouvel, an international architectural star is coming to Prague again.
The building is the first sign of transformation of Smíchov from a neglected Prague periphery into a modern city district. Contemporary technology meets poetry on the facade: red strips of poems appear on the background of white and grey clouds, an angel watches after the passers-by from above the corner. The image of the angel is taken from the famous Wim Wenders film, Wings of Desire, the fragments of poetry come from the texts of Franz Kafka, Gustav Meyrink, Jirí Orten, Rainer Maria Rilke, and other authors linked strongly to Prague.
