A National Park Service/U.S. Department of the Interior sign stands in a small parking lot in front of the Bison Viewpoint, along US 177 in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. It provides some information about the bison you see in front of you.

You tend not to see the bison in the hot summer months, and be aware that the viewpoint itself isn't just the area in front of the parking lot. For whatever reason, the bison move about quite a bit, and they can often be found in the same field, north of here, reachable by the trail that goes through the area. It goes without saying: Do not attempt to go into the field, and do not mess with the bison. They are much larger than you, and frankly, that fence isn't going to stop one of them. The leader of the herd often will stare at visitors.

The main text of the sign tells a little bit about the American Bison, which is Oklahoma's state mammal, and you'll want to visit in order to find out why you'll occasionally see them out in the field, rolling around in the dirt. There is also an inset photo from 1935, when this was still Platt National Park, showing off their bison herd. Below is a bison hoof print, rendered appropriately in what looks like one of the many patties you'll see them leave behind out in the field.
