Alfred was the father of Stanley Baldwin, the British Prime Minister. He lived from 1841-1908.
The clock tower, erected in memory of Alfred, was designed by Ambrose Poynter, artist and son of a famous artist, Edward Poynter, with carvings by John Kipling, father of Rudyard Kipling.
The clock face is a fairly standard design with gold hands, roman numerals and minute indicators on a black background.
