High Peaks South Welcome Center - North Hudson, NY - Highway Rest Areas on Waymarking.com

This is a relatively new rest area that has many of the expected features. Surprisingly, there is no state historical marker here. The design is typical, trucks are in one parking lot, cars in another parking lot and the picnic area is between the two lots. The pet area is towards the exit ramp.

This rest area serves southbound traffic on I-87 (Interstate 87) also known as the Adirondack Northway or the Adirondack Veterans Memorial Highway. The rest area is located near milepost 99, between I-87 exits 30 and 29. This rest area is also a welcome center with material available to tourists that have just entered New York state.

In many cases across the state of New York, rest areas have been decommissioned or labelled "text stops" and no longer provide rest rooms or garbage containers. It is nice to see that new, serviced rest areas are still being built.
