A plaque on the cairn reads:
"This cairn is in memory of the first St. Mary's Church built on this site by the Slavic pioneers who settled in the Rabbit Hill and surrounding districts."
The cairn was built next to the new St. Mary's Russian Greek Orthodox Church and Cemetery. A second plaque recognizes the 29 pioneer orthodox families who helped to build the church between 1896 and 1900.
