Nikola I Mirkov Petrovic-Njegoš (1841-1921) has been the ruler of Montenegro and from 1910 to 1918 king of that country. He did set up important administrative and military initiatives a introduced the Montenegrin perper as currency. He granted the first constitution and introduced the freedom of press and the criminal law. The statue, 4 m high with the basement, was erected in 2006 in the public park opposite to the Parliament, in Bulevar Svetog Petra Cetinjskog
