This Montreat College Historical Marker stands on Montreat Road, approximately 400-feet north of State Street in downtown Black Mountain North Carolina.
Montreat College was founded in 1916 and is located approximately 2-miles north of Black Mountain. One of the most beautiful buildings on the campus is The Chapel of the Prodigal, which was designed by Richard A. Henley of Charlotte, NC. The interior of the Chapel features a large fresco depicting the return of the Prodigal Son. The fresco is sixteen feet wide by seventeen and one-half feet tall and portrays the parable found in Luke Chapter 15. (
