O založení Vranovic žádné písemné zprávy nejsou. Dle povesti byly Vranovice obcí s farním kostelem v dobe, kdy ješte Prostejov nebyl mestem. Dokazují to i vykopávky a popelnicové nálezy. Písemná zpráva je z r. 1399 zapsána farárem Sbinkem. Husitské války v 15. stol. zasáhly celé okolí, které bylo popleneno. Prostejov i Vranovice byly prohlášeny za nekatolické a to až do roku 1620. Po tricetileté válce byla obec zpustošena, zustalo obydlených 9 domu, nejvíce v celém olomouckém kraji. Vranovice strídaly majitele bud dedictvím nebo prodejem. Od které doby byl kostel vystaven nevíme, ale jisté je, že už s knezem Sbinkem byl. V roce 1633 pripadala farnost pod Prostejov a to až do 25. brezna 1849, kdy ministerstvo vnitra povolilo zrízení expozitury ve Vranovicích. Duvodem byla velká vzdálenost od Prostejova. Urcitou dobu Vranovice patrily k Otaslavicím a mše zde byly slouženy každou tretí nedeli. Potom, ale došlo opet k pripojení k Prostejovu. Od r. 1803 také spadaly Kelcice pod Vranovice. Ve druhé polovine 19. stol. došlo k rozsáhlým opravám kostela (oprava strechy, chrámové vazby, výmalba, zmeny interiéru), také byla postavena menší vež pro zvon uprostred lodní strechy. 9.-14. 12. 1900 se konaly sv. misie (P. Hubert Ettl a P. Innocenc Neumann) za velké úcasti verících prespolních. V tomto roce mela obec pri scítání lidu 386 obyvatel. V roce 1904 se uvolnil hreb a oltární obraz sv. Kunhuty spadl a poškodil se. Na nový peníze nebyly, proto jej malír Fr. Buriánek z Brna opravil. Udelal zmenu. Sv. Kunhuta se ted dívá vpred a ne k nebi jako dríve. Od roku 1898, kdy vznikla Jednota sv. Kunhuty, se delaly sbírky pro zrízení nové farnosti. Farníci se dockali až za 10 roku. Za vybrané peníze byla zrízena v nové farnosti i nová fara. 1922 se farníkum splnilo prání a došlo k opravám vnitrní cásti kostela, predevším k odebrání cásti kuru. 1942 musela farnost odevzdat polovinu jmení nemecké bance v Praze. V témž roce došlo k otlucení omítky a nahrazení novou. 1961 zamalování kostela a akademická malírka Marie Bognerová provedla renovaci nástenných obrazu. 1966 privezeny varhany z Linhartova u Krnova. 1968 nová krytina a hromosvod. 1970 úprava okolí kostela. Byl to strarý hrbitov. Zbývající kríže a kameny byly odstraneny a naskládány do starých hrobek. Kolem kostela byla založena parková úprava. 13. 9. 1970 posvecení dvou nových zvonu „Kunhuta“ a „Marie“. Svetitelem byl P. Jan Malý z Olšan. U této príležitosti byl také posvecen mramorový kríž na okraji obce u silnice na Vincencov. 1972 oprava kaplicky sv. Floriána. 1984 pokoncilové úpravy kostelního interiéru. Vybudování nové sakristie a zpovední místnosti z dosavadní sakristie. Architektem byl zvolen Ing. Indra z Arcibiskupství olomouckého. došlo k obložení steny u vchodu pro postupující vlhkost. Od r. 2015 je spravována farnost knezem z Urcic.
