Schœlcher, ville martiniquaise de près de 23 000 habitants, est située à proximité de Fort-de-France, à la porte du Nord Caraïbes.

Fessenheim est le berceau de la famille Schœlcher. Victor Schœlcher (1804-1893) lutta pour l’abolition de l’esclavage. C’est en hommage à son combat, qu’une ville de Martinique porte son nom.


English Dates of the twinning: July 20th, 1980 to Schoelcher and on July 20th, 1981 to Fessenheim.

Schœlcher, city from Martinique of about 23 000 inhabitants, is situated near Fort-de-France, at the Caribbean door of the North.

Fessenheim is the cradle of the family Schœlcher. Victor Schœlcher (1804-1893) fought for the abolition of slavery. It is in homage to its fight, that a city of Martinique bears its name.
