The tombstone of William Carey Crane, a former President of Baylor University, was erected by the state of Texas in the State Cemetery. It is listed in the Atlas an official state historic marker.

William Carey Crane is buried on Republic Hill, Section C1, Row T, space 6.

Note: The footstone for William C. Crane that is listed in the Atlas as being part of his grave is missing at the cemetery

Marker Text:
[Front] Born in Richmond Va. March 17, 1816. Died in Independence Tex. Feb. 27, 1885. [right side] He gave his life to the cause of education and religion in Ga. Ala. Miss. La. and Texas. [back] The remains of Dr. Crane were removed from Washington County and on February 26, 1937 Reinterred in this cemetery by the State of Texas [left side is blank] [Footstone] President Baylor University 1863 - 1885
