James Benjamin met his death by accident at the Mount Kembla colliery on the 26th April 1900 aged 19 years.

His parents Robert & Susannah Benjamin commissioned an intricate headstone to express their sorrow. The details of their son's death is described in an open book supported by a hand. The headstone has a shawl & a vase at its apex.
