From the City of Eugene website:
This one-of-a-kind playground was designed by the Eugene community to bring children in touch with Eugene’s unique history and culture through creative play. Discovery Village is part of an overall vision called RiverPlay, aimed at creating two regional play areas near the waterfront, linked by the River Bank Trail. This playground was made possible by the enormous support, cooperation, and generosity of the entire community and was spearheaded by the Eugene Rotary Club.
From the trekaroo website:
Located in Eugene, Oregon, RiverPlay Discovery Village is one of the largest playgrounds in Oregon and brings the Northwest’s unique history and culture alive through creative play and state-of-the-art design features. Here, children can spend the day scaling a 25-foot replica of Skinner Butte, uncovering fossils at anancient history sand dig, playing with sand and water along a miniature Willamette River, splashing underneath a giant rain circle, and recreating the life of the original inhabitants at the Kalapuya and pioneer villages.

The playground design was based on principles of “inclusive design,” which means creating useful features for people with vision, hearing, and mobility limitations. Accessibility features include ramps and bridges to access the playground’s centerpiece play structure; sand and water features which are elevated to allow easy access by smaller children as well as those in a wheelchair; and auditory play devices from such features as the splashing of water.

RiverPlay is an exciting destination for Oregonians and visitors. Eugene's proximity to Interstate 5 also makes it an easy stop for families traveling through the state.

The park can get a little crowded on beautiful days. It was 60 degrees and sunny and kids were running around barefoot and in their swim suits so they could play in the water-features. Nobody loves nice weather more than folks from the NW!
