Located in Commons Beach near a playround is a dedicated bench with a plaque that reads:

"BEST SEAT IN
THE HOUSE"
JOHN K. REICHERT
1944 - 2008

I located two online obituaries for John. One of them reads:

John Karl Reichert died August 23 at home in Carnelian Bay, Calif. He previously lived in Mill Valley, Rohnert Park, Cupertino, Newport Beach and Fresno. John lived at Lake Tahoe with his wife, Susan and three dogs Mikaila, Tanka and Strider. Born in Price, Utah in 1944, John grew up in Fresno where he was the first ever at Bullard High to earn an unprecedented 400 out of 400 points in the yearly fitness test and held the California state record in the 100-yard dash. John graduated from California State University San Jose with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics. Professionally, he was a consultant at the Tahoe City Public Utility District and owned several businesses over his lifetime including the Paradise Lounge nightclub in San Francisco and Reichert Ultrasonics, an ultrasonic manufacturing company. At age 30, John became President of Parmatech Corporation of San Rafael. A longtime community activist, John was the President of the Redwood Empire Pop Warner Football Association and was named volunteer of the year in 1985. He was voted “Mr. Lucky Legs” at the Founder’s Day celebration in Rohnert Park. John coached Little League baseball, Pop Warner football, CYO basketball and was a key supporter of many other community events throughout his lifetime. He lectured on business at community colleges and the history of Lake Tahoe. He recently served on the North Tahoe Public Utility District’s Recreation and Parks Commission. John’s deceased parents were Shirley Snow and Karl Otto Reichert, and niece, Alexis Reichert. He is survived by his wife Susan Fitzgerald Reichert of Tahoe City, sons Jason Reichert of San Francisco, Ryan Reichert of Gambia, West Africa, Tyler and wife Kelly Reichert of Rohnert Park, and their mother, Carole Lindsey Guaraglia of Rohnert Park; two much-loved and long-awaited grandsons, Cooper Reid Reichert and Jake Ryan Reichert, brother Robin Reichert of Bolinas, sister Lisa Reichert of San Jose, and four nieces Blythe, Jennifer, Kathleen, and Elizabeth. John was an extraordinary person who was respected and loved by those he met. He was a coach, a teacher, a leader, and a friend with an uncommon confidence that held him high in a crowd. Memorial service will be held at Commons Beach, Tahoe City, September 6 at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, send any donations to the John Reichert Memorial Fund to benefit the North Tahoe Regional Park. Make checks payable to TTCF, noting “Friends of the Park John Reichert Memorial Fund” on the memo line and send to the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation, PO Box 366, Truckee, Ca.
