A very tall, granite, obelisk-shaped water fountain in the lobby of Harveys contains a small granite plaque that reads:
Falling WaterDedicated to the memory of
Beverlee Ledbetter
January 21, 1999
I'm always intrigued about the background of an individual who is memorialized and this waymark is no exception.
Beverlee Ledbetter was the daughter of Harvey Gross and his wife Llewellyn, who began Harvey’s Wagon Wheel Saloon & Gambling Hall in 1944, a one-room log cabin. It also contained the only 24-hour gas station from Placerville to Carson City. In 1963, Harvey Gross built an 11-story hotel addition.
Beverlee's husband, Bill Ledbetter, was the general manager for many years at Harveys and their son, Kirk, was/is also an executive.
Harvey Gross died in 1983. Beverlee died in 1995 and her husband, Bill, died in 2007. Beverlee and Bill are interred at Happy Homestead Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe, CA.
Harrah's Casino Hotel across the street purchased Harveys in 2001 for $625 million.
