Svatý Bartolomej,
apoštol, mucedník: narodil se na pocátku 1. století, jeho domovem byla Kána v Galileji. Puvodní jméno apoštola bylo Natanael. Bartolomej se pravdepodobne odvozoval z hebrejských slov “bar tolmai”, syn oráce brázdy, což poukazuje na povolání jeho otce.

Tradice vypráví, že Bartolomej se dostal k Ježíšovi pres apoštola Filipa. Kristus mu rekl: “Hle, pravý Izraelita, v nemž není lsti.”

Po seslání Ducha svatého, když se apoštolové rozešli hlásat evangelium, kázal Bartolomej v Arménii, Indii a Mezopotámii. Známý se stal svou schopností uzdravovat nemocné a predevším posedlé. V polovine 1. století byl odsouzen k smrti: z živého tela mu stahovali kuži a pak ho ukrižovali. Ostatky byly pozdeji preneseny do Ríma.

Svatý Bartolomej je patronem horníku, kniharu, vinaru, pastevcu, rezníku, krejcích…

apostle, martyr: he was born in the early 1st century, it was home to Cana in Galilee. The original name was the apostle Nathanael. Bartholomew is probably derived from the Hebrew words "bar Tholmai" son of a plowman furrows, which points to the profession of his father.
 
Tradition tells that Bartholomew came to Jesus through the Apostle Philip. Christ said, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile."
 
After Pentecost, when the apostles dispersed to preach the gospel preached Bartholomew in Armenia, India and Mesopotamia. He became known for his ability to heal the sick and especially obsessed. In the mid-1st century were condemned to death: from a living body withdrew his skin and then crucified him. The remains were later transferred to Rome.
 
Bartholomew is the patron saint of miners, bookbinders, winemakers, shepherds, butchers, tailors ...
