The Bamberg Rose Garden was designed in the style of an antique Roman garden. Part of the design are statues of Roman deities, sculpted by Royal sculptor Ferdinand Dietz in 1761.

One of the statues depicts Diana, the Roman goddess of hunting and nature and the goddess of the moon.

The main belt asteroid 78 Diana, discovered in 1863, is named after the goddess.
