The Bamberg Rose Garden was designed in the style of an antique Roman garden. Part of the design are statues of Roman deities, sculpted by Royal sculptor Ferdinand Dietz in 1761.

One of the statues depicts Neptune, the Roman god of all water - rivers, lakes and oceans.

The planet Neptune, the farthest known planet from the Sun, discovered in 1846, is named after the god.
