In the Middle Ages Saint Lucien’s Monastery was located here and in 1578 the City Orphanage was built. An exhibit for children called “The Little Orphanage” pays homage to this history.

The Little Orphanage (Het Kleine Weeshuis), children and their parents can discover together what life was like in the 17th-century orphanage.
For 400 years, the building complex which now houses the Amsterdam Museum was the City Orphanage of Amsterdam. With his display, the museum brings the building and its history to life.
Visitors experience The Little Orphanage with all their senses. Learn about what life was like in a 17th-century orphanage in the heart of a flourishing trade city and discover he closed world behind the orphanage doors. See dining rooms, dormitories, classrooms, kitchens, a crude toilet and even a cattle shed! The youngest visitors to The Little Orphanage discover animals hidden along the way and children over the age of seven befriend the little orphan boy Jurriaan.

Directions: By train: The museum is a 15-minute walk from Amsterdam's Central Station, via Damrak, Dam Square and Kalverstraat.
By tram: Trams 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 14, 16 and 24 (stop at Spui).
By car: From the A10 ring road, follow signs for S100 (exit 'Centrum') and follow P signs. The nearest underground parking facility is 'the Kolk' at Nieuwezijds Kolk. You can also use the Bijenkorf parking building. Coaches can stop on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal.
Hours of Operation: The Amsterdam Museum is open daily from 10 am until 5 pm.
The museum is closed on 27 April and 25 December.
On 1 January, the museum is open from noon until 5 pm.
On 5, 24 and 31 December, the museum is open until 4 pm.
