In Peru, along U.S. Route 9, is this New York marker for Port Jackson.
The marker is on the east side of the road, near the intersection with Lapham Mills Road. It located at a grassy area near a development. Beyond a line of tall trees is Lake Champlain. The sign is also near another New York Historical Marker for the Battle of Valcour.
The sign is a typical New York historical marker, made of cast metal and painted blue with yellow letters. The text is as follows:
"Port Jackson
Est. by Robt. Platt CA. 1820
This busy Lake Champlain port was an important transportation hub for both people and goods during the 1800's."
A web site about the town's history room had a small mention about Port Jackson, mentioning that that location and Peru Landing helped the town grow in population. Railroads were built through the area and a depot was added. The area is now known as the village of Valcour within Peru.
