EN: The railway station of Brig opened in 1874. It was the terminal station of the railway line down the Rhone valley to Lake Geneva. In 1906 the Simplon tunnel connected Brig with Italy in the south and in 1913 the Lötschberg tunnel added a northbound connection to Bern and the rest of German speaking Switzerland. Finally in 1926 the narrow gauge line to Central Switzerland and Grisons opened and was connected with the line from Visp to Zermatt in 1930. In 2007 the opening of the Lötschberg Base tunnel shifted some of the traffic to Visp, but Brig remains an important junction.

The new definitive stamp series of the Swiss Post from 2016 shows several large railway stations in Switzerland, all combining old and modern architecture. The 85 Rappen stamp depicts the main façade of the station of Brig seen from the bus terminal.
