"Auch König Ludwig I. von Bayern übernachtete sowohl in seiner Zeit als Kronprinz wie auch als König im Goldenen Kreuz. Beispielsweise war er 1842 anlässlich der Eröffnungsfeier der Walhalla hier Gast. Anlässlich der Aufnahme einer Marmorbüste in die Walhalla von König Ludwig I. am 25. August 1890 enthüllte Prinzregent Luitpold ein Stucktondo am Goldenen Kreuz mit einer Reliefbüste König Ludwigs, die von dem damaligen Hotelbesitzer Wilhelm Schrotberger gestiftet worden war."
