The plaque reads

“An Independent chapel ('The Temple') stood here from 1818 to 1871. After a long period of neglect the site was made into a leisure garden for the people of Ripon in the festival year of 1986.”

Very little is known about the chapel, other than it was solemnised for the purposes of marriage on 2nd Sept 1837, according to the London Gazette.
