The plaque reads
“This former Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was erected in 1861, replacing an earlier building in which John Wesley preached in 1780. Worship ended here in 1963 when the chapel merged with Allhallowgate Methodist Church. The derelict building was restored in 1997 by Lishman, Sidwell, Campbell & Price.”
The earlier building mentioned in the plaque was erected in 1777. The present grade 2 listed building was opened in October 1861 at a cost of £2,000. There are plans to convert the chapel to an arts centre and offices.
