There are four members of the Swafford family buried behind (east side) the fenced Howard plot at the back of the cemetery. The grave of John Swafford (1911-1970) is marked by a government-issued headstone, given his service in World War II. Next to him (west) is his father, Adolph Swafford, whose hand-inscribed inscription plate reads:
Adolph Swafford
1872-1937
Father
of
John W. Swafford
John Swafford's stepmother, Mary Jane "Mollie" Swafford, is buried next to him (north), and her inscription plate reads:
Mollie Carr Swafford
Stepmother
of
John W. Swafford
Finally, John Swafford's baby daughter is buried between her grandparents, and her inscription plate reads:
Swafford
Baby
Girl
of
John W. Swafford
--
All three crosses are a little over four feet high, and all three inscription plates are crudely done by hand. One is tempted to speculate that Mr. Swafford himself placed these crosses here for his father, daughter, and stepmother.
