Hallstead is off of US route 81 and is next to Great Bend. The Susquehanna river runs by it.

The Hallstead Borough building is a plain two story building with grey-white siding. There are large garage doors. It has several windows without trim or shutters. There is a flagpole with a US and a PA flag on it.

"Hallstead was settled in 1787. What is now Hallstead was incorporated as Great Bend Village on November 28, 1874. In 1887, it was renamed to Hallstead Borough in honor of William F. Hallstead, president of the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad."
