Four members of the same family drowned in the Shoalhaven River gorge nearby & all are buried in Tallong Cemetery. The two graves abut one another sharing the same base for the marble plaques.
The deaths were reported in The Argus a Melbourne newspaper on 7 January 1957. A recording of the article is to be found in Trove, the National Library of Australia's repository of digitised news articles.
The Argus article states: The four members of the same family drowned in NSW at Shoalhaven Gorge, near Tallong, were: HILLARY RUMSEY, 45, orchardist, of Tallong, his sons, MICHAEL, 13, and BRUCE, 10, and his brother-in-law, VICTOR RALPH LUKE, 37, carpenter, of Penrose.
A brass plaque at the base of Hilary Rumsey's headstone shows that his wife Marise lived until 2006.
