The Quintet Tunnels are an engineering marvel. Originally constructed in 1914 for a then cost of $300,000 (In 2016 it would be C$6,349,180.33). At that time it was considered the most expensive constructed railway mile in the world.

The feat involved crossing the rushing narrow gorge of the Coquihalla River twice but due the sheer cliffs four tunnels had to be constructed.

In 1934 the CPR civil engineers returned to reinforce Tunnel No. 3 and daylight the northern end. When they did they dated their work by inserting in the concrete "1934".
Year built or dedicated as indicated on the structure or plaque: 1934
