From MOUNT VERNON CITY LIBRARY: NEEDS ASSESSMENT AND FEASIBILITY STUDY:
Originally constructed in 1954, the 3,600 square foot Mount Vernon City Library served a population of approximately 5,000. It has been 33 years since the library was last expanded. The third and final addition was planned for a Mount Vernon population that had reached 13,000 in 1981. In 2014, the same 12,336 square foot library serves a diverse population estimated at 34,700.
