There is an information sign beside the wall, which reads:
The Birpai people are the Aboriginal traditional owners of all the land and waters of the greater Port Macquarie area, including identified Aboriginal living areas such as National Parks and Wildlife Service Three Brothers Mountains, Point Plomer and Mt Cairncross.
Birpai Nations country covers the watershed of the Maria, Hastings, Forbes Cells, Doyles, Mummel, Camden Haven Stewarts, Landsdowne and Manning Rivers. Birpai country commences in the west in the Great Dividing east of Tia Falls and in towns of Walcha and Nowendoc.
Here the Birpai artists have depicted barray* (country) and the centre of all life bathu* (water). In designing the mosaic, colour, shape, story positioning, protocol and cultural expression were all considered.
The artwork and the seven Birpai totems (right) reflects the abundance, riches and living Aboriginal culture within Birpai Country.
