After spending hours visiting the Cathedral, we noticed a churchyard cross nearby. After we photographed the cross, we proceeded to that blue car that keeps following us from place to place. We crossed the road and practically stepped right on this date.

The sidewalk is stamped simply: Wm Winkler 1955.
Comes to find out, this stamp is not that uncommon in the Spokane area.

Who is Wm Winkler?

William Vincent "Bill" Winkler was born July 21, 1898 in Rootstown, Ohio and passed away on September 8, 1987 at the age of 89 in Spokane.

William V. Winkler, former owner and chairman of the board of William Winkler Co.

Born in Ohio, he came to Spokane in 1900 with his parents, Wallace and Barbara Reidinger Winkler, who settled on a farm at what is now Fairchild Air Force Base.

Mr. Winkler started to work in the cement contracting business in 1916, and in 1919 founded his concrete and road construction company, William Winkler Co. He was president of the company 66 years. The Winkler business stamp is on hundreds of miles of concrete sidewalks and curbs poured in Spokane.

He was the first president of the Cement Contractors Association of Spokane.

Mr. Winkler was a member of Knights of Columbus and was a 4th Degree Knight. He also was a life member of the International Footprint Association and the Spokane Elks Lodge 228 and a member of the Spokane Police Guild.
