Turin Hill lies in the middle of the Angus countryside, 4 miles east of Forfar and 8 miles south-west of Brechin. At 252 metres it is the highest point between those two towns. The trig pillar is situated on the summit area north of a stone dyke with a memorial cairn on the opposite side of this, the views are extensive, taking in most of Angus, with the sea and mountains visible on a clear day.

STEEPNESS: Only near the summit, but relatively easy.

TERRAIN: After initial roads and paths the way up soon deteriorates onto muddy grass which can be taxing in wet conditions but once higher up near the top the conditions become much dryer on shortish grass pasture.

ACCESSIBILITY: With farmland on the southern flanks the northern approach is best, albeit longer. A lay-by on the B9134 road just west of Aberlemno is the nearest parking space, this is just over a mile from the summit. Heading west from the lay-by, after a third of a mile a minor road heads south towards the Back of Turin Hill and from here the deteriorating path heads directly west of the summit.

NAVIGATION: Keeping on a straight line up the track leads to the stone wall which heads left directly to the trig.

DANGER: Mainly the route along the B9134 which is pathless and needs care in heavy traffic. On the hill there are a few fences to climb over but no other difficulties.

Type of Trigpoint: Triangulation Pillar

Condition: Good

Number on Flush Bracket: S4480
