In the not too distant past the Burlington Northern Railway passed by here and crossed over the Spokane River at this point. Though the bridge has been dismantled and removed, the west bridge abutment, of poured concrete, remains in place, and that is where the Vertical Control Disc was monumented. To get to it, park by the WSU Extension Energy Program Building (the building by the river and immediately south of East Spokane Falls Boulevard on the WSU campus), then follow the walking path that goes around the building from the north to the east. At about 115 to 120 feet south of East Spokane Falls Boulevard one will see the abutment to the left and the Vertical Control Disc on top.
