The peak of the Baha'i Temple can be seen for MANY kilometres, so it is no surprise that was selected as a trigonometric point.
The Baha'i Temple deserves a Waymark of it's own Waymark, but a summary is:
Construction began in 1957, and completed in 1961.
John Brogan (Sydney, NSW) was the builder-architect.
As a FIRST for Australia, a helicopter placed the pre-fabricated lantern structure on the completed dome. This is now the 'aiming point'.
The temple grounds cover ~ 9ha.
Height - from basement to top of spire: 39.6 m
Spire/lantern structure height: 4.7 m, 2.4 m diameter
Temple seating capacity: 600
Visiting hours: 9 am - 5 pm daily
Services: 11 am every Sunday
Parking available off Mona Vale Road.
