In Whitehall, along Main Street, is the Skenesborough Museum and Heritage Area Visitor Center, with space dedicated both to exhibits and tourism information.
The museum is on Main Street, about a tenth mile south of a truss bridge over the Champlain Canal. It is on the east side of the road, and west of the canal.
As you enter the museum, the desk is in front, where an attendant can direct you to where you can go. In fact, the person recommended that we visit the Skene Manor, a stone house built for Judge Potter - and it was well worth the visit. To the left of the desk are several shelves with tourist information, including museums and hotels mostly in the Lake Champlain/Lake George area.
The museum and visitor center is jointly supported by the Whitehall Historical Society and Lakes to Locks Passageway, Inc., a non-profit that manages the scenic byway.
