Community residents raised enough money to form a volunteer fire department, buy a firetruck and build a garage to shelter it. Even though New Almaden no longer needs to provide its own fire protection, everyone still turns out to help.

An old photo, circa 1937, shows the fire fighters in front of the firehouse.

The firehouse can be seen in Google Street View.
