Mitchell Cemetery is an abandoned cemetery on the west side of Alamo Road, just south of its intersection with Tage Road, south of Montague in rural Montague County, TX.

There are no signs for the cemetery, and no gate, although there are the remains of a fence around three sides of the cemetery. Some maps know this cemetery is here, others don't.
Families represented are Bridgewater, Curry, Duncan, Garner, McGrady, Standiford, Tyson, Wagner, and Willis. As of this posting, headstones for fifteen individuals were visible in the tall brush. The small grave markers for two of the Bridgewater family, Ida Wagner, and Marthie Garner are hidden by Mother Nature, while Thomas Jefferson Tyson is buried across the road in a farmer's field.
Findagrave has 26 listings, but there are several duplicates -- entries for "J.B. Curry" and "Mrs. J.B. Curry" are for the same individual, who actually appears to be "L.C. Curry", and "B.E. Standiford" and "Bessie Standiford" are the same person -- so there might be 23 burials here, plus or minus.
While Georgie McGrady's 1882 burial is the earliest on a visible headstone, Ida Wagner's burial took place in 1878, making hers the earliest burial that we can verify with a headstone. Walter W. Curry's 1969 burial was the last here, and probably will remain so.
As always, be careful in the brush, as there can always be holes and depressions, as well as critters who may not take too kindly to being disturbed suddenly. Cooler months in Texas reduce the possibilities of encounters with snakes.
