These 4 broken column tombstones catch the eye in a corner of Round Rock Cemetery. Closer inspection reveals deep tragedy and also mystery: what killed the children and their mother on consecutive days?

We can find no documents about this family on Ancestry.com, but we did find a Wikipedia article about a pandemic of Russian flu that killed about a million people from 1899-1900.

Whatever happened to this family beset by tragedy, they have taken the answer to their graves.

The 4 broken columns are arranged in a line, from north to south, as follows:

"JAMES J. BOONE

Jun. 15, 1853
Jun. 26, 1881

My husband how fondly shall thy memory
Be shrined within the chambers of my heart.
Thy virtuous worth was only known to me,
And I can feel how sad it is to part."

"JAMES B. BOONE

Born Dec. 23, 1880
Died Apr. 7, 1889
Aged 8 years, 3 months & 14 days.

Suffer little children and forbid them not, to come unto me; for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."

"FRANK M. BOONE

Born Oct. 6, 1878
Died Apr. 8, 1889
Aged 10 years, 6 months & 2 days.

Sheltered and safe from sorrow."

"NELLIE BOONE

Born near Paducah Ky.
Oct. 11, 1860
Died Apr 9, 1889
Aged 28 years, 5 months & 28 days.

Come unto me all ye that are weary
and heavy laden and I will give you rest."
