Traveling east on 2nd Street, of course on the wrong side of the road I spotted Pretzels. We turned around to have a better look as that utility box brought back memories of enjoying those twisted morsels.

Pretzels is one of 13 decorated utility boxes of phase one. By this time phase two should be on its way.

"The Signal Boxes are back! Spokane Arts, in partnership with the City of Spokane and with generous support from Spokane Teachers Credit Union, selected 20 original artworks to cover traffic signal boxes in Downtown, Garland district and Perry district."

In the United States around the late 18th century, southern German and Swiss German immigrants introduced the pretzel to North America. The immigrants became known as the Pennsylvania Dutch, and in time, many handmade pretzel bakeries populated the central Pennsylvania countryside, and the pretzel's popularity spread.
