Neuwied - Vor wenigen Wochen haben wir unser Lokalthema dem untergegangenen Neuwieder Stadtteil Rockenfeld gewidmet – und erhielten prompt reichlich Resonanz von unseren Lesern. Allen voran von Bernhard Dames aus Irlich. Er schickte uns Fotos, die sein Vater Eberhard aufgenommen hat, als die Rockenfelder Häuser kontrolliert abgebrannt wurden.

„Ich muss damals neun Jahre gewesen sein, und für uns Kinder war es natürlich ein außergewöhnliches Spektakel, dass die Feuerwehr etwas abbrannte und nicht löschte“, erzählt er im Gespräch mit der RZ. An Details kann er sich zwar nicht mehr erinnern, wohl aber hat er noch einige weinende ältere Menschen vor Augen. „Sie trauerten ihren Elternhäusern hinterher. Und dass sie damals entschädigt worden sind, konnten wir als Kinder natürlich noch nicht einordnen“, sagt er.

Auch Erich Walther aus Fahr hat weiter zum Thema recherchiert und drei interessante Briefe gefunden, die „Rockenfellers“ zwischen 1880 und 1885 in die alte Heimat schickten und in denen sie ihren Verwandten von den Möglichkeiten in den USA vorschwärmen.

Erich Walther from Fahr has also researched the topic and found three interesting letters, which "Rockenfellers" sent between 1880 and 1885 to the old homeland and in which they swarm their relatives of the opportunities in the USA.
