EN: This stone cross is located in the forest south of Ettingen on a footpath to the Blattenpass. The cross stands on a rock that is overgrown with moss.

The cross was erected in 1857. The place is called Metzgerchrüz and is the site of a local legend.

A sign below the cross tells the story: "Metzgerchrütz

According to old tradition, a butcher from the Laufental, who wanted to bring a calf to the town, was attacked by robbers at this site on the former Roman road. He defended himself so vigorously that one can still see - with some imagination - the imprints of his feet, the calves and the dog in the rock."

When this story was supposed to happen is not known. The weakly recognizable depressions in the rock are quite certainly of geological origin.

DE: Dieses Steinkreuz steht im Wald südlich von Ettingen an einem Fussweg zum Blattenpass. Das Kreuz steht auf einem mit Moos überwachsenen Felsen.

Das Kreuz wurde 1857 errichtet. Die Stelle heisst Metzgerchrüz und ist der Schauplatz einer lokalen Legende.

Ein Schild unterhalb des Kreuzes erzählt die Geschichte: "Metzgerchrütz

Nach alter Ueberlieferung soll an dieser Stätte an der ehemaligen römischen Heerstrasse ein Metzger aus dem Laufental, der ein Kalb nach der Stadt bringen wollte, von Räubern überfallen worden sein. Er wehrte sich so kräftig, dass man - mit Phantasie - heute noch die Abdrücke seiner Füsse, die des Kalbes und des Hundes im Fels erkennen kann."

Wann diese Geschichte passiert sein soll, ist nicht bekannt. Die schwach erkannbaren Vertiefungen im Fels sind ziemlich sicher geologischen Ursprungs.
