Martin Luther King Jr. Way is mostly a divided roadway that spans about 550 metres from North Division Street to North Sherman Street.
In the summer 2009, the Spokane City Council approved Martin Luther King Jr. Way as the name for the Riverside Avenue extension. This is the first phase of the extension completed in 2016. With additional planning and construction to continue into 2017; the Martin Luther King Jr. Way will connect with downtown.
