The plaque says, "Founded in 1804, this institution is the oldest museum in the city. Its reach library and museum hold the architectural files of McKim, Mead, & White, as well as the original watercolors of John James Audueon's Birds of America. The central colonnaded section was completed in 1908 by York and Sawyer in an Austere Classical style derived from the architecture of ancient Rome, white the wings were designed by Walker & Gillette in 1938."
