"The Skaneateles Village Hall reclaims a former fire station located in the heart of the community. With the re-use of an existing building, the Village determined the project would be driven by sustainability and economies of operations. Preserving the large apparatus bays for a future tenant, the remaining area has been transformed into new Village and Police Offices. A new entrance addition responds to the existing set back from the street to provide a strong identity for the facility. The existing canopy has been renovated with planting screens, and is bordered by a rain garden, which also provides examples and explanations of permeable surface treatments.

"QPK continues to assist the Village with refining the master plan for the site. The final design will include a pedestrian promenade of permeable pavement, native plants and no-mow ground cover, and a bio-retention stormwater management.
The building achieves reductions in energy demand with geothermal heat pumps and LED lighting. Spurred by receipt of an energy saving grant for a 45-kw photovoltaic system on the roof, the building will achieve “Net Zero” on an annual basis. The photovoltaic installation includes a live-time lobby display illustrating the energy usage to the public. The project is pursuing LEED® Gold certification." ~ QPK Design
